The moment 4 players went to war – Caius Monthly League, Accra, June 2026

I raised. She shoved. He called. Then the all-ins started flying. Before I even had time to think, four players were in the middle with their tournaments on the line. I got out of the way just in time to watch one of the craziest hands I’ve ever seen unfold right in front of me.

But before we get to that, there’s a whole story that happened just before it — because this thing has a prequel.

The Hand That Started It All

Seat 3 was in the small blind, clearly not paying attention to what’s going on at the table. A player had already moved all-in, but Seat 3 didn’t catch it. He just casually tossed in chips to complete his blind like nothing was happening.

The dealer stopped him. “There’s an all-in.”

Seat 3 immediately reached for his chips back. Wanted to fold. And honestly, fair enough — except that’s not how poker works. The moment those chips hit the felt, that’s a call. Doesn’t matter what you meant.

He wasn’t having it though. He argued his case. It went back and forth until the floor had to come over and settle it.

The call stands.
Seat 3 turns over 9-8 offsuit. His opponent shows A-Q. Not ideal.
Flop comes 9-8-x.
Two pair. Just like that. The A-Q couldn’t get any help on the turn or river and just like that, their tournament was over. Seat 3 had doubled up on a hand he was fighting tooth and nail not to play.
Sometimes this game is just something else.

Then THIS Happened

A few hands later. Still in the elimination stage. Blinds are 2k/4k with a 4k big blind ante — so every chip counts and nobody is messing around.
I picked up 9-9 in UTG1 and raised to 12k. Felt good about it.
Then everything went mad.
Seat 1 (UTG2) shoves for 53k. She’s short, she’s going for it.
Seat 3 (HJ) — remember him? The guy who just doubled up on a hand he didn’t even want to play — just calls. Flat calls. With the whole table still to act. I remember thinking, why isn’t he raising here?
Seat 5 (BTN) moves all-in.
Seat 6 (SB) rejams on top.
I looked down at my nines and suddenly my hand didn’t feel so good anymore. Four players going to war before the flop — I wasn’t going to survive this one. I quietly folded and stepped back to watch. Seat 3 called and we all held our breath for the showdown.

The Hands

This is the part where I need you to really picture this.

  • Seat 1 — K♦️K❤️
  • Seat 3 — A♣️T♣️
  • Seat 5 — A♠️A♦️
  • Seat 6 — J♦️J♠️

Pocket Aces. Pocket Kings. Pocket Jacks. Ace-Ten suited. All in. Before the flop. At the elimination stage of a tournament in Accra.

The table went quiet when the cards were tabled. Like, genuinely quiet.

The Board

Q❤️ 8❤️ A❤️ K♠️ J❤️
I’ll break it down because this board was doing the absolute most.
The flop — Q❤️ 8❤️ A❤️ — gave Seat 5 top set of Aces right away. Three hearts already out there too.
The turn — K♠️ — and now Seat 1 hits a set of Kings. Two players with sets.
The river — J❤️ — and Seat 6 hits a set of Jacks. Three players hit sets on this board.
But that fourth heart on the river also meant Seat 1’s K❤️ played — King-high flush. And the board reading A-K-Q-J-T meant Seat 3 had quietly made Broadway, the nut straight.
Because Seat 1 was the short stack, she was only eligible for the main pot — and her King-high flush was the best hand in that pot. She takes it.
Seat 3 takes the side pot with Broadway.

Seat 5’s Aces — gone. Seat 6’s Jacks — gone.

What a Way to Start the League

But the player in Seat 3 — what a night he had. Tried to fold 9-8 offsuit, got forced to call by the floor, flopped two pair and eliminated someone. Then a few hands later he’s in a four-way all-in making Broadway to scoop the side pot.
He finished 4th and cashed.
If that’s not a poker story, I don’t know what is.
Welcome to the Caius Monthly League, June edition. It’s going to be a mad month.

  1. HOLLYWOOD! MYTHICAL!!!
More like a scripted and meticulously directed, plot twisting sequence than the reality of the set being a tournament in our very own Ghana.
Scenes in The Rounders has nothing on this. A page out of Casino Royale’s playbook and a blueprint for scenes in Hollywood blockbusters.

Thanks to you Pokergh for making us live the moment as usual
